Tech data

Hello.

I`ve not been able to find tech data about my camaro z28 1986 LG4, when it comes to performance.

What should 0-60 mph be?
What is top speed?
hp? Is this hp from engine, or hp at rear wheels?

The car is completely original. 700R aut gearbox.

There are no "specs", like amplifier power specs or something, for alot of those things.

Those cars did 0-60 in the low 8 second range; 8.2, 8.3, around in there, depending on the particular car. But there's no "spec" for it; only results that different people got when they tested them at the time for magazine articles and so forth.

Top speed is anybody's guess. There's no spec at all for that.

The 145 HP is at the crankshaft, after the engine has been installed in the chassis. Those cars typically put about 115-120 HP to the wheels on a chassis dyno.

Thanks.

Now i got an idea of what i could expect form the car.

What would i gain in hp, if i remove the cat, air(smog)pump and airsilencer (An use a K&N filter)? Could you feel the difference in performance?

I`ve heard that these things "steals" horsepowers.

None of those things will change the car's limits to its performance, which are the exhaust (especially the Y-pipe size), the cam, the single-snorkel air cleaner, the rear gears, and the compression ratio. So no, I don't think you'd be able to "feel" any difference, maybe not even measure any.

I guted my cat. and intalled a 3" cat back system and changed to an open element air filter and felt a difference with just a paper filter that the open element came with. Other than that, I installed 8mm Accel wires w/AC rapid fire plugs. I also checked the fuel pressure and discovered only 7 lbs and installed a new pump that produced 13.5lbs. Even before doing the pump I noticed more bottom end torque, quicker throttle response, and a little more HP in the top end. Just the exaust and air filter change should net you a difference you can feel. Although these two mod's won't get you a big gain in power, every small mod. add's up! for example; five mod's netting 5hp each add's up to 25 hp!
Get it? That bring's a 170hp engine to 195hp!

This is a LG4 car, not a Cross-Fire car.

One of the easiest mods you can do is to add an open element filter instead of the air cleaner you have on there now.

Run down to autozone and buy a $25 dollar one, don't bother with K&N, and stick it on.

I promise you will notice an increase in performance, and well as in how loud your exhaust is if you have aftermarket. At least I did.

It also makes cool sucking noises that makes your car sound like the 69 camaro my dad used to have.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think my 88 form. Lo3 is a cross fire. Either way, easing the restrictions on the induction side and the exaust side in any gasoline engine will see a performance gain.
