Why would these be a bad deal??
ok so i've heard some people say that these r to high priced, but i've also heard that if u get 1hp=$20 than u're doing good. so each of these crates r 1hp=$10-$15 so y would that be a bad deal, and they r all GM new parts...right??
GM Performance Parts ''ZZ4 HO'' 350 Crate Engine
GM Performance Parts Fast Burn 385 Crate Engine
GM Performance Parts ZZ383 Crate Engine
one thing is the 385 and ZZ4 both come with a HEI dist. and it looks like the ZZ383 doesn't come with a dist. wouldn't i be able to use my stock dist?? my L69 is HEI right?? i have alot to learn as i am new to all this.

Your stock distributor is computer controlled you cannot use it in a non-cc application.
I'd love to get one of those ZZ383 motors, but for that money you could build something better.
Really crate motors aren't that good in IMHO. They cost a lot and come with stock parts, rods, cranks, and hyper pistons. If i was going to spend all that money i would want forged and better parts. But hey some people just do want to screw around and just go buy an engine.

I believe you meant to say you can't use a stock L69 distributor with a non-CC application.
But, you could use the L69 system to run any one of those engines - except the Fastburn intake won't take a q-jet directly. If that's what you wanted to do, the ZZ4 would probably be the best choice. Afterall, once upon a time GM made a kit to do just that.
Crate engines are new and have a warranty. And, they're assembled, pretty much a remove and replace deal, no assembly required. But, you get what they offer, not necessarily what you would choose to combine.

ME Leigh, as far as getting more for that kind of money. i would but don't know how or where to get a block and what not. plus the one and ONLY machine shop is like 45-60 mins away from me. so if i got a used block it would be a PITA. five7kid, u might remember me asking about getting a L98 and rebuilding that for my car...well the shop being far away is sorta y i don't want to do that now. if there's somewhere i can get all the stuff without being machined then that would be great.
and thanks for all the info....please..keep it coming
EdIT: i forgot, a while back i saw a site that offered a 405hp ZZ4 along with the normal 355hp...does anyone know what i'm talking about....i might still have the site..i'll look tonight when i get more time

You don't need a block the machine shop should have tons lying around. Just tell them what you want and they will build it for you. Its really simple, and then you get the exact parts you want.

well, to my surprise i found another machine shop, sorta. it's a Rebco Auto Parts store that has a machine shop, turns out i past the place all the time but just thought they were a normal parts store...someone just by luck happened to hear they had a machine shop
, would they do?? and what u're saying ME, is tell them all the parts i want (cam, intake, crank, pistons, ect) and they'll put it all together for me?? and i know this is sorta an open ended question...but about what do they charge to put an engine together....do to money, i would most likely get the block and then as i got more money i would build more of the engine....right now i'm just trying to find all my options.....
Thanks for all the info

Yes just tell them what you want. Try to find a performance shop if you can though. But any shop will work.
Tell them something like i want a 350 built with 10:1 forged pistons, AFR heads, capscrew rods, rpm intake...
Or you could tell them your budget and ask them what they could build.
