Those "pontiac" heads arent really pontiac. That motor is a chevy and so are the heads. The pontiac small block was discontinued years ago.

Actually, Pontiac never made a 'small block' or 'big block' all of the engines were the same except for the deck height.
Those heads will bolt up as they are standard Chevrolet heads which is actually considered a 'corporate' engine since it was used in so many car manufacturers.

If they're '86, good.
If they're TBI, bad. Don't touch them except to use them for a door stop, boat anchor, or for disposal.
They can't be both '86 and TBI.

Actually, Pontiac did build their own head for the sbc for racing purposes. Check the description out at this link http://www.race-cars.com/engsales/ch...75147001ss.htm

Anybody care to place odds on a set of Pontiac Pro Stock heads being "found" on a L03? or on some random 86 Pontiac 305?
I think it's safe to say, without hesitation reservation or equivocation, your car has regular SBC heads on it, and your friend's heads are also some sort of normal SBC heads. Nothing Pontiac-specific like the ones in question.
Or AFR, Dart, TFS, Brodix, etc. either, for that matter.
If they're 86 heads, they didn't come from a TBI motor since TBI didn't appear in those cars until 88. Which actually, is a good thing; TBI heads being about as anit-performance as you can get, and the early carb/TPI heads (which are the same) a far better casting. And, they will have different valve covers (perimeter-bolt instead of center-bolt) and the center 2 bolt holes will be at a different angle with respect to the intake flange (a nice sensible 90° instead of the later model 72°). So they're not quite a direct bolt-up, but not really a radical change either; just some details.

I won't bet on that, but will bet on these http://www.musclemotorsports.com/eng...num-heads.html

92camarors5spd:
The heads came off a 1989 Pontiac Formula Firebird 305 TBI.....next time, just ask!
BTW--all 82-92 Camaro/Firebirds share the same Chevy engines <Pontiac has not put out a motor for years>. They both share the same platforms, but they wear different badges w/cosmetic differences...the drive trains are the same.

If they came off an '89 TBI, then there are two big mistakes: 1) the "bought" part; and 2) taking them home.
Not necessarily in that order.
Drop the "little port and polish job" plans - it just plain isn't worth it on those heads.

He bought them from me for the price I would have gotten as a core charge at a local reman. cylinder head shop. Supposedly, he wanted a set of junk "practice" heads so he could experiment w/porting. Practice does make perfect.......and if he messes up, well, no big loss!
