Engine Mount replacement
Engine Mount replacement
Ok, well I'm in the middle of a 305 TBI/350 TPI swap and I decided to change the motor mounts. After serching the board and finding some helpful hints I finally went at it. I think I may have found a pretty simple way to do it, there is only one problem but I will get to that later.
What I ended up doing was taking out the lower control arm bolts from the crossmember and the chasis and accessed the nuts from the hole that was left by droping the control arm. I was able to hold all three with a 15mm box wrench while someone loosened the bolts from the top (this is obviously with the engine out).
Now the one problem, After getting the new engine mount in and torqued down, I tried to raise the control arm back into possition. But I can't get the bolt holes to line up. I have tried a driftpin and hammer as well as adjusting the jack to try to possition it right. But to no avail. I finally threw in the towel today and I'm going to take another crack at it tommarow.
If anyone has any suggestions on how to get the control arm back in with everything else still atched please post I need all the help I can get with this one. Thanks.

I had the same problem... Took forever. The only thing I can say is just put a lot of grease on them. I replaced them with PST bushings which are much stiffer which made it harder yet. I used the jack and a BIG screwdrive in the hole to line it up.
