Edelbrock cams are less than good. They are yester-years technology in terms of lobe design. They have lazy LAZY ramp rates. Keep looking.

In short, I probably wouldn't use one if it were given to me.

What type of engine are you camming?

I got my 84 z28 off my brother. it has a 305 and he had it rebuilt. and thats the cam he used. well its not an edelbrock its a summit racing but it is the same thing is the edelbrock. it doesn't seem lazy at all. it has quit a bit of get up and go.

If it's the Edelbrock cam, TRULY the Edelbrock cam, it's lazy. While it may seem that it has some pick up, it's still a lazy cam. Sure it may have good .050" duration and decent lift, but look at the advertised duration. I'm willing to bet it's around 280°. Now do a comparison. Comp's 274h cam. Roughly the same advertised duration. Now look at the .050" duration. Its 230/236° compared to the Edel's 204/214°. Or perhaps the Pure Energy cam. That has roughly the same .050" duration figures (203/212 in its case), however, it only has 246/263° advertised duration, whereas the edel has around 280. Trust me, it's a lazy cam. Although, for a 305, it's still better than the stocker.

like i was sayin it is a summit racing cam. My bro got it b/c it was like $80 and it came with the lifters also. it makes my car sound really cool. i'm planning on getting a new exhaust soon with headers which will make it sound even better. I was just wondering if it was a good cam or what. when u say lazy what do u mean

If you really want that cam, you can get the identical same thing from dozens of grinders that won't charge you the Edelbrock cover charge.

None of their cams are a unique design. Every one is a copy of an ancient generic design.

You can buy the same cam for about $50 less as the Summit 1102, for example.

It's an OK cam, if you don't want outstanding performance in any way. A perfectly good cam for a street rod, or something like that, where you just need it to run and not be embarassing. It's not a great choice for anything resembling a "max effort" buildup, at the level it competes with; that is, you can many cams that will significantly outperform it, use the same or less gas, idle just as well, etc. Basically, you can build 2 identical motors for which that cam is appropriate; put that one in one, and some ome of the others in the other; and the one with the 1102 (or 2102) cam will lose, every time. That's the kind of cam I'd like to see in the guy's motor in the other lane.

it was like $80 like a year or 2 ago. my engine is just about stock except for the cam, crank and the other stuff that is replaced when doin a rebuild. Also it has an edelbrock 600 cfm carb. The cam like i have been sayin is summit racing but it has the same spects as the edelbrock. I consider my engine to be more on the stock side of things b/c the cam is the only real proformince adder. Would that cam make my car go better than the stock one or what?

It's better than stock, but nowhere near as good as a good cam. Even for a mostly stock motor.

Totally agree... Keep looking and do a search for 305 cam choices... you will find more than enough info on what people here are running w/ results...

If your not looking to heavily modify this motor than that cam is fine. Its defenetly better than stock and if you just want a little get up and go then you really dont need a better cam. Now if you were looking to make any real power you have to ditch it, but with a high flowing exhaust, intake, decent rear gears, and a good tune you could easily have a high 14 second car and have perfect street manners which is pretty good for a daily driver IMO. So unless your looking to push 300+hp your fine. Now go get a full exhuast and a new intake and youll be set. Good Luck.
