What does it do? And why do we need it? One came on my ZZ4 motor. Now I added something and am having some interference problems.
What will happen if I take it out? Will it hurt anything?

You need it. It keeps the roller bearing squared on the cam so they roll on the cam lobe. Thats how the friction is reduced. Leave the dog bones in there.

My direct port 200-600hp kit.
One of the tubes is hitting the hold down bolts. I already bent one of the lines, but now another one is hitting the front bolt that holds the little spring retain down. Which holds the dog bones in place. Maybe I can get way w/ running only 2 of those 3 bolts.
But that doesn't sound good.

If it comes down to it you can always go with aftermarket lifters. They use a different method to hold themselves that doesn't require the sheet metal spider.

Hmmmm.... direct port... hmmmmm
Yeah I could see how that would be an issue... you can't bend the tube around that bolt a little?

yes drect port, jetted for 300, and run w/ a separate fuel system and a progressive controller. Should go low 10's. I'm hoping. If not, I'm selling the car. And I'm serious about that.
I could, but I've already spent lots of hours bending them the way they are. It's been the biggest PITA so far. I need to get some pictures.
Do you know who makes those lifters? Right now I don't know if mine are special or not. I just bought the ones summit suggested for my cam. cc306.

Everybody that makes roller cams, makes (or sells) the original design roller lifters as well. Comp, Crane, Lunati, Isky, etc. etc. etc. Comp's part # is 853 IIRC (that would be 853-16 for a full set for a V8) and yes they are not cheap. Or inexpensive either. But that system is a whole lot more sensible than the factory's bizarre Frankenstein setup.

Thanks for the info. I've only redid 2 lines and it seems to fit a lot better. Now I just need to clearance the main feed lines.
