Cruise Control Delete?

Since I have joined the forums I have been able to find a wealth of information from just searching on the boards except for one topic, cruise control delete. I would like to do this to my car but I am unsure if it will have any negative effects. I have removed the entire unit and cable, and am going to plug the two vacuum lines and leave the wiring intact (just in case I ever sell the car or decide I want it again, if it works). I am just wondering if the computer use cruise control for an input, or output for that matter, in any way? Basically, can I delete cruise control? Thank you for any help.

The computer controls the cruise, but doesn't rely on it for any input. Plug the vacuum line going to the engine and you're ready to roll.

Just a question out of curiosity. Why would you want to delete the cruise control? Theres absolutly no power to be gained there. The weight savings are negligible and the effects on drivability are non exsistant.

I deleted it because I never use it and it clears up a little space under the hood. I know that there is no performance gain or weight savings from it, but it's nice to have some more room. Those are the same reasons I deleted AC (for now), AIR, and the heater valve. All I want is more space to work with. With these things deleted (except CC) I can get to all 8 spark plugs from the top of the engine.

The computer actually has no control over the cruise control. I think its done by an external unit somewhere under the dash. I never really looked for it. I jsut pulled all the stuff out because it didtn work anyway. Other then some dead switches on the stalk there wont be any adverse effects by removing it.

I figured the cruise control was a stand alone unit but I just decide to ask, just in case. Thanks, everyone.

Yep, that's pretty much it. Just remove the cable, unbolt and remove the whole cruise control diaphragm thing, plug the 2 vacuum lines, and you're done. You could remove all of the related wiring and the module (under the dash) itself if you want to, but I didn't see any need to. You never know when you might want to reinstall it.
