this is a re-post because it didnt get any responses due to the fact that i put it on the wrong board. so i figured i would try a re-post ............i have a 1982 z28 all original and stock, except for the dealer installed aftermarket
cruise control. it was broken so i have already removed it. it left a small hole in the plastic cover thats behind the stalk on the left side of the column. i got the part from the dealer #7839666, but i cant figure out the easiest way to get the old one out and new one in?????i would hate to go through what it described in the tech section to tighten up the steering....im hoping theres a shortcut...

 

There's no other way to get to that little sleeve... You have to at least take the wheel off, remove the lock plate, ignition lock cylinder, turn signal cam and switch assembly and the pull the bigger black sleeve (the one that holds things like the ignition lock cylinder). Then put in your new piece, assemble the headlight dimmer components (the little plastic piece that gets pushed by the turn signal lever, which in turn pushes the metal rod that actuates the high beams), and reverse the removal procedure. Not too bad once you've done it a time or ten.
