400 .040 pistons?
400 .040 pistons?
does anyone know who makes a set of 4.165 forged pistons? for either a 5.7 or 6.0 rod?
i found a set by SRP on jegs, but they are pricey, i will get them if there aren't any better options?

That's part of why we tell people not to bore blocks to that size; and not to pay money for blocks that are already .030", and need to be bored further.
Good luck. Aside from cheeeeep "rebuilder" pistons, you're pretty much into custom piston territory with that odd size.

Actually they are not that hard to find. TRW sells a forged racing piston at .040" over as well as Wiseco. The TRW's go for $329 while the Wiseco's go for $449. These are quoted off the site

I believe Diamond Racing sells them in a forging also.
Your choices are plentiful in hypereutectic. Both Keith Black and Speedpro with the coated skirts come in .040".

Yep,,, another "what wesilva said".
Flat-top Wiseco's are what I routinely use for .040 forged piston applications,,, PT016H4 for 5.7" rods and PT020H4 for 6" rod,, it's a piston kit with Hastings plasma moly rings,,, so at the $450 price above that's a very good deal - Summit gets $480 for them.
TRW makes a 4.165 dished piston for 5.565" rods (10:1 compression with 64cc heads) and they use to go for around $280. That's a very good budget forged piston,, but it's heavy and uses 5/64" rings. The rod length isn't as big an issue as the weight and ring widths,, but I've built a few engines with them making over 500 horses with cast iron heads,,, so they're not all that bad.
I didn't know TRW offered the L2489Fs (5.7" rod) in .040 over (the latest TRW book I have is 1998,, guess it's time for a new one since their site sucks). The site above lists that it does,,, but when you add a $80 set of file to fit rings to $330 you're only looking at $40 difference in the Wisecos,, and the standard L2489Fs are also HEAVY mothers and use 5/64" rings instead of 1/16" rings! The Wiseco are worth the cost difference in my opinion - for what it's worth.

Quick question for you guys?I am planning a 400 build myself and after teardown and having the machine shop I always work with on all my motors look/measure it over they say that a .020" overbore will be good enough to set the cylinders up for the build.Question is..does anyone know where I can find a good quality forged piston for 5.7 rods and a .020" overbore 400?I only seem to find a .030"/.040" common for the 400's save for a custom made piston$$.Reason for wanting a .020" overbore is to be able to bore it again .030" down the road if another rebuild is ever needed..room to grow if you will? That will at least give me two builds before I need to hunt down the next block which will be *** knows what by then.I may be asking the impossible..but it can't hurt.TIA

most manufacters make .020, they just don't advertise it because it's not as popular of a size.

going by what RB preches, its still a 400.... going by modern "lets call it by its new displacement" it would be a 409..... athough that could be confusing.

if you go .40 over, its 408.7ci.

heh, i didnt mean to put the peroid infront..
but yea... your right.
you cant.... but if you could, thatd give a displacement of 482.4
