oil pump pick-up screen has debris in it...

been looking over my engine today - mainly at the parts staying on the block, and found what looks to be remnants of an intake gasket from way back when (wasn't me doing the work) in the pick-up screen. anyhow, can that part just be removed by taking off those bolts to clean it out? i wasn't too sure and didn't want things falling apart... i just want to take it off to clean it out and put it back on. thanks...

Pump pickups are cheap enough of a part to just go to the store and get a replacement, which is what I would do.

But yes, the pickup is a seperate piece than the pump itself. If it was done correctly when assembled, it will, in some way, be attached. Brazing it is a common way. Bolt on brackets are another form. Whatever the case, after a little massaging, it will come off.

Heck, I'd probably just end up replacing the whole pump assembly if it were me.

A whole pump..... M-55, plus Mr G 26 spring, plus 55-S screen, plus IS=55E drive rod... is less than $30.

Go get a new one. It isn't worth screwing around with contaminated used stuff in a critical place like that.

I hear a stock pump with the Mr. Gasket spring gets awesome pressure. Up near 80-90psi I hear.

All but the Mr G piece are Melling part#s. The Mr G piece is a higher than stock pressure relief spring.
