I just installed an open element air cleaner on my 305. Then I drove it around for a few blocks and I popped open the hood to check it and it was smoking!! It was coming from the back of the engine near the distributer. It smelled like something was burning!! Any ideas on what this could be??

 

Mine did the same thing. I think it may be from the coil wires touching the intake though I haven't looked yet. Take off the air cleaner and look.

Well the coil wires were touching the bottom of the air cleaner base but it didnt seem to be smoking from there, it was more over on the passenger side......any more ideas??

 

Problem solved. It was my oil breather. Got a new one and it hasnt smoked so far.
