My car was running GREAT about 1000 miles ago. Now it stalls when left to idle for a couple minutes and put in gear. It stumbles under 700rpm and starter sometimes feels like it doesn't have enough power to turn the engine over (only sometimes). The other thing I've noticed is that my voltage gauge dips from 14.2 down to about 13 when engine is at idle (~750). I set the TPS sensor correct AND reset the IAC. Both are working but I can't figure out why the darn thing wants to stall when put in gear. It stumbles really bad and I started to think it was because the eprom idle (650) was set below the min idle (750rpm). So today I raised the eprom idle to 950 with and without a/c AND I changed the "max hot idle" to 1000 and "max cold idle" to 1400. This didn't help at all. So now I'm thinking the advance is too far (can't tell, tape put on wrong). I can't figure this out for the life of me. The wires are brand new and the engine idled great up until a week ago.

If your starter seems like it doesn't have enough power to crank the engine, then it very well could be that your battery is weak. You should replace the battery first if its old, and if your alternator isn't working right, it will kill the battery, that may need to be replaced too. For the most part, starters last for the life of the car and don't just "wear out". My guess would be the battery.

What if I told you it's a brand new Ultima Red Top less than a month old from factory. Now what would be the next step? This is really pissing me off. Why the **** are scan tools just priced so that you REALLY REALLY REEAAAALLLLLYYYYYY want to get it but you KNOW it's a rip off. $400 for software (diacom cough cough) is just stupid expensive for the average Joe that wants to tune his own car. The whole point of getting this stuff is so I can spend my time fixing and tuning. Instead I invest over $200 to be left with guestimates and spark plugs to look at. Sorry about the venting, I'm just really strapped for cash (bills :mad and this little idle problem is driving me crazy.
