Were you losing coolent? You also might have lost your oil pump. If coolent was going into the oil, it coats your bearings and causes the heat to rise really quick. Heat is an enemy to engines after so long. What were your gauges reading. You probably lost all lubrication causing you to throw you rod.

Well, if you lost a rod i'd say any discussion about what the problem was, and what you could've done about it is pretty academic and pointless.
All you can do now is get a new engine.

Well the coolent would boil at times and a few days before it went out the oil pressure was not reading any thing.

Sounds like a blown head gasket.

if it shot a rod, you are going to have to take the motor completely apart and rebuild. i lost a rod one time and pieces of it came out of the oil pan. even if you just spun a bearing, a head gasket isn't going to fix the problem.

Yea, I would've pulled it and removed the oil pan to look if I thought it was a tossed rod. There could be chunks in there from where the rod bolt failed that didn't come out with the oil. How sure are you that you tossed a rod? Explain....

Yep, keep the fingers crossed....
