headlight motor bushings?
headlight motor bushings?
Hi,
The headlights on my 87 firebird don't always pop up when they should... they work in the winter but in summer they have problems.. i think i decided it was the motor bushing or soemthing. i had a link to a site that sold fiero bushings that supposedly work, but i lost it. anybody have it? or know of another cheap source?
thanks,
Jeff

Did you notice if your manual ***** were spinning when you turn on your lights? If they are and the lights don't pop up then you need the plastic bushing dowels. Don't know who sells'em , I made my own out of nylon stock at work. You may not have nothing left inside those housings but chips, so you may not have an idea of what they originally looked like. I'm sure someone here could help you with the dimensions!
yes the ***** spin... you can hear the motor keeps spinning even after the light pops up if it does at all... sometimes it will start to come up and then fall back down... the drivers headlight actaully always works but the passenger one usually doesn't come up without me running out of the car to pull it up, so maybe i'd be able to tell what's broken by comparing the 2?
thanks

I just repaired my brothers a few weeks ago. His passenger side would come up but not the drivers side. Not even if you lifted it. Sounds like not all of your bushing in the bad one has shredded. Take off the good assembly and take it apart (the motor housing)to see what the bushings look like. Get a Haynes Firebird (82-92) manual to do this to get the removal and reinstall correct. Anything of tough material should work in place of original bushings if made or cut to correct size. When you do the reinstall the last thing you do (which is not listed in the manual)is to turn the light on , lift the head light door, turn the manual **** until the actuator arm comes up to full lift position, then pop the arm back on to the headlight door. There will be some washer shims inside the housing so look carefully as to where they go. Also be careful not to tear the housing gasket.
