Yes it matters. Alot.

Move the trans back an inch or 2, and turn it around right.

with something as crucial as the flywheel, or flexplate, whichever you've got... why would you want to try to jerry-rig it? lol.

It matters, because the crank flange and the surface that the converter bolts to, aren't in the same plane; and the raised "pads" on the flex plate for the converter bolts, are usually too small for the "pads" on the converter to fit into the back side of; and the crank flange usually isn't flat on the side toward the bolts, so you've got that part of the flex plate all bent up because it won't sit flat up against the crank.

I know you don't want to take it back apart, and I sympathize; but that isn't going to make your car work correctly in spite of the reality. The same goes for in case somebody pipes up and tells you what you want to hear. Just because you want to hear it and somebody says it, doesn't make it so. You need to put it together right.

And yes, although I can't answer about the "dumb" part, it's been done before, once or maybe even twice.

what kind of sound would it make if u had the flywheel on backwords? would it make u go through a few starters and make it sound like something is grinding?

The starter would probably work. The problems would more likely involve transmitting engine power.
