another heated O2 sensor question
I'm having problems installing this thing.I have a 91' 5.7,is the fuel pump relay behind the brake booster? and is it the one in the middle? if it is, there is not a tan/white wire connected.in fact the only tan/white wire there is goes to the master cylender. please... any help will do. I was going to connected to the green, but decided not to. I want to be sure before cutting.
If you have the F'bird body, it might look like this:

I have a 91'z-28 5.7L.sorry,but nothing like that, there is three small boxes about half of the sizes of the ones shown. from the haynes manual it should be the middle relay. it has 5 wires...blk/wht...orange...pink...grn/white.....gray..I keep looking around all three relays and no tan/wht wire.even the manual states there is one.thanks for the help
Well, it's time for a volt meter then.
I'm thinking it's the PINK wire that you mentioned, but you need to make sure before you go wiring your O2 sensor to it.
Ground one lead of the meter, and probe up inside the connector where the corresponding wire goes in (make sure you make good contact with the meter). You want 12volts when the ignition is in the ON position WITH the engine running. I say WITH the engine running, because if you plan on using the Fuel Pump relay, the positive wire will only remain energized for two seconds with the key simply in the ON position with the engine not running. That's why it MUST be running when you check it.
With the key in any other position, you want to have ZERO volts showing on your meter.
One other note....MAKE SURE that it's the fuel pump POWER wire coming out of the relay, and not the "Fuel Pump 'ON' Signal" wire going into the relay from your ECM. Reason being, the "signal" wire used to energize the relay will show twelve volts but it doesn't have enough current (amps) to power up the heater element in your O2 sensor.
