Help!! Before I get a gallon of gas and a match
Hey,
I have been messing with this check engine light for to long. When checking the code i seen the 33 come up and never waited for any other codes. This time I let it go through the codes and seen the 33 then 42 I was told that this means the 42 was the first. If so what could be the cause?? I changed the maf and realys thinking the truble was the 33. What to check before sending to the shop and get ripped off? It is a 88 305 ta when the light comes on the car will run good till you hit 2000 rpms then it will start to cut out, HELP

The 42 is an EST code. You either have a problem in the EST circuit or a bad ignition module. Check the timing bypass wire (tan/black) for breaks or shorts and also check the white wire at the distributor to be sure that it has approx. 4.75V on it when the car is running. I had a fast idle prob with mine and it was giving me a rich code, lean code and the same EST code that you are getting. It turned out to be a bad TPS sensor. Everyone told me that the car is supposed to run bad when it goes bad but mine worked alright. I would check that out. The potentiometer moght be going bad in spots.
