How to pass smog tips

anyone have simple little tricks to do that will help just a little bit on the tail pipe test? like i was wondering if i was to remove the air cleaners completely and just run straight air, it would allow more flow, would that improve the tail pipe test results? anyone else have any ideas?

A little alky in the gas tank helps from what I hear. So does getting the engine pretty hot right before the test (dont test cold).

Drygas.

Have you failed and are wondering how to pass? Or are you just trying to cheat your way through, knowing your going to fail? If the former, what were the results? If the later, what's the combo?

Dont bother removing the filters. Clean filters will be what you want. The computer compensates for the extra airflow anyway, so it won't work like you might think. It might on a non-cc carb setup, but not TPI. Good thinking though.

No it is not quite that simple. Just go to any auto parts store and look for the stuff that is called "always pass" or somthing along the lines of that. Also, use the stock air cleaner assembly and back your timing off a bit. Even running a few degrees advanced can drastically change the emissions in any engine. Overall just make sure your car is ain a good state of tune.

I see your in california...
You know that you have to pass a visual as well, so you need your filters in place. You also need stock timing and idle. Make sure your EGR and Cat Converter are still functioning.

umm how about move to a state that doesn;t require it ?

i have no clue other than what works for me.

keep your car tuned proper
change oil often
fix stuff before it falls apart
if it sounds broken it probally is

and run the car for at least 20 min driving not idle.
