horrible sounds...

hey hows it goin, my cars makin some crazy noises...when its runnin, i hear a sound that sounds like a bunch of bearings rolling around in a pulley or somthing...even if thats the case, i have no idea which pulley it would be, i know its not the tensioner cuzz i replaced it and it still does it. one of my buddies third gens does it as well so im thinkin its a common problem. do all the drive pulleys ride on bearings? if i let it sit, it stops but as soon as i rev it up, it does it agian....any thoughts?

How many miles on the car?

Where is it coming from? The front?

Mine has ~195K miles and does the same thing. It's more than likely a bearing in the water pump or slack in the timing chain hitting the timing cover.

Mine's been like that since ~150K miles and hasn't failed me yet.

try taking a piece of pipe and put it up to either the smog pump, alternator, timing chain cover, or water pump. that way you will be able to hear exactly where its coming from.

Water pump is most likely.

Like Zero said, take a piece of heater hose and stick it in your ear (I just love telling people to do that!!!) and probe around with the other end to pinpoint the source of the noise.

only 70000 miles, i have used a tube previously, but i still can't pinpoint it, i have a waterpump i put in about 10000 miles ago so it couldn't be making noise already, but i try to use the tube agian, thanks fellers

If I had to hazard a guess, I would say alternator. They can make some truly rude noises before they fail completely.....

Well, my car does the same thing....well....did. Its got 81k miles and decided to crap coolant yesterday from the water pump on the way to my girlfriend's last night. Realized it once I got in her driveway, so there my car sits. I'm replacing it with a high-flow model from Autozone today, and if that noise goes away completely, I'll let you know. It was something that was kind of random. If its still there afterwards, then it wasn't the water pump

Yesterday I'd hear my car squeaking really bad from time to time which was odd and then it was like a continous squeak once I was in her driveway...I *barely* made it to her house since the second I put my car into park, coolant began to dump out. Talk about poor coolant system maintenence...I should've changed the coolant when I got the car 4 months ago, but I kept saying I'd wait for the cam swap...

not to rag on you, but it's a good idea to change the coolant (and all the other fluids) when you get the car home.

as far as mantenence, i believe once every year for regular (green) coolant is the timeframe for changing it.

I know, I did everything but that. Well, and the O2 sensor that I've yet to replace. Seems to be working right but it couldn't hurt to replace it anyways.

As for the coolant change schedule, most car manuals say 2 years or 24,000 miles. In any case, I have some Prestone Super Radiator Cleaner in there right now and I'll empty that out on Tuesday for some normal coolant.
