Oil Filter Cooler question

Where does the snap ring go? And do I need a gasket between the cooler and the block? I know I do not need a gasket between the adapter and the block...but how about between the cooler and the block? If so, what type of gasket do I need?

Do I need a gasket on the shinny surface which mates to the block? If so, what type of gasket?

Also, this cylinder that attaches to the adapter and goes through the oil cooler. There was a snap ring that came off of this tube. I thought it came off the top of the tube facing toward teh block, however, there is a small grove on the under side of the cooler (away from the block) which makes me think maybe it goes on the under side?? But I could have swore it came off the top of the cylinder????? does anyone know where this snap ring goes? On the top toward the block or toward the bottom?

Thank you for your help!

Steven,

Hey, the flat side goes down and mates with the oil filter. The side with the built in rubber ring goes toward the block and attaches to the adapter that fits in the block. The snap ring goes on the shaft toward teh top of the bock to holt it in place. There is no grove for the snap ring...trust me that is where the snap ring goes.. Call me if ya need to, pm me your number.
