It would work fine, as far as that goes. You might need the $special$ adapter flywheel, depending on the 350 you choose.

I was just up in Brecksville a couple of weeks ago, building a radio station. You might possibly even have seen my car, if you live in the southwest part of town, since I was using it as a work truck.

I couldn't say about "as good"; the T-56 is one that you can get at the junkyard, and it fits the car, so I guess that's pretty good.

Transmissions don't "have torque". Engines have that. Transmissions merely survive (or not) when torque is applied to them.

OBTW, I did eat at Whitey's Booze & Burgers while I was up there.... that Kiev Burger is one hell of a plateful.... thank goodness they don't put their whole name on their receipts, otherwise it might raise eyebrows when I file my expense report.

Depends on the yard more than anything else. If they know what it is (ie. its from a Camaro/Firebird) expect that to jack up the price some.

RB... you have a 6-speed right? Or are you on #__ T5?

You'll be looking for the trans from a 93-97 (probably you'd really prefer 94-97) Z28 or Trans Am. Shouldn't need a rebuild.... that's why this is the trans you want in the first place, is because it doesn't tear up much.

Make sure you get every possible piece: the bell housing, the little spacer piece that goes under the slave cyl, the complete hydraulics themselves, the shifter, the flywheel, the clutch. Pay extra if you have to, it's cheaper than buying them new. Probably be around $1200 for all that.

Yes, I swapped to a T-56; I'm done with T-5s.

Cuz its probably not nessesary (sp?). You rebuild it when bearings, seals, and syncros are worn out. If the gears are worn out, look for another one.

That's the point. You don't replace gears when you "rebuild" a transmission, ordinarily; just the wear parts, such as bearings, seals, etc. Gears are expensive.

If you get a trans at the boneyard that needs gears, you just take it back, tell them it's fornicated, and you want another one. And keep doing that until you get a nice cherry one. But most likely you won't have alot of trouble with that, because that's why you're looking for a T-56 in the first place: they don't wear out much, so any one you find in the yard, is probably going to be OK anyway.
