Hyd Lifter Adjustment

It seems like a lot of guys here adjust their valves with the motor running.
I've tried it both ways but when I started using roller rockers I decided to adjust them with the motor off, cause I couldn't find any of those splash deflectors that keep the oil from spraying all over the place that would fit onto a roller rocker.
Does anyone use a splash deflector with rollers, or are you guys just letting all that oil spray out?
Any other ideas for keeping the oil in the engine while adjusting lifters?

Thanks

Mr. Gasket is the only one that I am aware of thus far that makes the deflector clips. However, as you say, they are are intended for factory stamped rocker arms only.

I just try to adjust the lash before the oil really heats up. I also just keep a towel handy (place a towel down to keep the oil from landing everywhere).

I've always wanted to go to a junk yard or something, grab a factory valve cover, and hack the top off creating a little perimeter shield type of thing.

I like that idea, Stekman.
I think I'll take an old cover and put 8 holes in it.

Another question

Where have I seen these little rubber caps that are about 1" in dia, and they're like a grommet but without a hole in the center?

you mean like breather hole or oil fill covers...? if so, that is just a cheap oil cap you should be able to get at ANY auto parts store...

No...
What I've got in mind is 8 rubber or plastic plugs that I could use in a valve cover that's got some holes drilled into it, so I can adjust the lifters without getting oil spray all over.

This valve cover would only be used for adjusting lifters and then replaced with the regular valve cover after they've been adjusted.
