cant turn off/on high beams.
yes i searched, no results.
i dropped my steering column today to make room to install my headers, and after all is good and done, and i put my steering column back in its place, i turn on my headlights to find them with high beams on. no problem, except i cant turn them off, my lever makes no click, i dont think its broke, but perhaps a loose connection somewhere? where should i start looking? thanks

most likely "dropped" the little actuator rod that goes from the signal lever to the switch. the switch is located at about the 10:00 position of your column way down by the floor board. the rod is about the size of a coat hanger... but... i'm not sure how to reinstall it if it in fact popped out. the switch has two 10mm screws on it that can be a pain to get to if you need to adjust it. was your hi beam on/off "sloppy" before this happened? sometimes that switch gets loose and just needs to be tightened up and i was asking just in case.

it was fine, no slop in it, thanks ill check that metal rod and get back to here with results.
Radien, if you look down the column while you push the lever you will see the rod and sounds like your problem is too much play in the rod before it hits the switch. The switch has an adjustable position and you can loosen it up and slide it to were there is no slack and that should fix your problem. Might have to remove a few things to get to the bolts. For tavi if you look down there you might find that the rod has falling off of the switch and just need to reposition it like thunderstick said.

Believe it or not, the same thing happened to me when I replaced my broken steering column. To fix it I dug into the column where the "blinker wand" attaches, and had to re-connect the metal rod to the wand, so to say.
It was a PITA. Needless to say, it broke again a few months later and I have failed to fix it. I now turn on and off my high beams by tilting the column all the way down into my lap. Sounds silly, but it works and it does make people laugh.
I guess my suggestion is to try tilting your column as low as it goes and see if that triggers the switch. then you know it's up high on the column, and not down by your feet.
