I still need help installing my new gauge cluster!

Okay, I traced all of the 'pins' on the back of my new cluster from an 87 GTA, and then I traced them all on my spare 83 cluster, and not one is the same. cluster will bolt right in, but nothing will finction correctly. Is it possible to replace the gauge cluster wiring harness? I don't really want to re-wire my harness, but I will if I have to. Someone has to have had their dash apart before...

Ward - this is very interesting.

I have an '84. I swapped for an '85 cluster, changed two sensors and everything is fine.

From the cars/clusters I looked at, sometime in the very late 80's / early 90's, a change to the instrument layout was made - that is why I elected to stay with a cluster that was as close to my model year as possible. The printed circuitry on an '83 verses an '87 may very well be different.

Does the circuit board layout look the same on both clusters? If, not, someone with extensive experience in clusters is going to have to help you.

I think the physical gauge lay out (3 small between two large) is the same for '83 / '87 - right? Seems like it should work. Does NOTHING work? The tach? Fuel gauge?

I am not much help - hopefully, someone else will chime in here.

Your 83 will not work w/ the 87,I did the same w/ my 87 z28 and I had to have a cluster for 86-87 only and I don't know why but when I put the 86 in,it worked fine.

From: out of my mind; be back in 5 minutes....

Ward is talking about a Firebird dash, not a Camaro one....they're a bit different.
I could help if I had a Haynes Firebird manual with the electrical diagrams, but unfortunately, my Chilton's doesn't have detailed enough diagrams.

I need to know if i can take the cluster wiring harness from a firebird with an electronic speedo. in 87 (i think, maybe 86) they were changed to electronic, and they changed the whole interior and gauge cluster, including the wiring for it.
