Timing Mishap?

ok guys got a question for ya that i would apreciate greatly if answered, right now im runnig my car at around +8 degrees advance at idle with vacum disconected now i know that an engine simulator is not the "stand by what it says it is perfect" type thing but when i run my exact setup in engine dyno 2000 i get only 249 hp@5000rpm but for some reason when i set the timing to 0 im pushing 267 hp@5000rpm not to mention a WAY flatter power curve, i mean this is almost a whole 20hp along with a better curve now from the parts i have listed in my sig on a good running condition motor, does this seem right? should i change my timing to lower than what its at

p.s. in case it matters the summit 50,000 volt distibuter has the original springs and weights that it came with, however it sayd it out performs the one GM puts on the ZZ4.

thanks for the help guys you guys on here are always helpful and from a 17 year old kid its definitly appreciated

Every combination is different. I have seen many examples of a motor liking less timing and making more power. Give it what it likes and enjoy it.

Try it and see.

Give the motor what it wants, regardless of the "numbers" and whether you "think" they "seem" "right" or not. set it to where it runs the best.... in meatspace by the way, not cyberspace.

any tips as how to find the sweet spot for the timing on this motor. and one thing i realised is that i had set the timing so it idles smoothly without the vaccum hooked up. now when it is hooked up do you think that it is to much timing, basically should the engine run a little rough with out the vaccum hooked up or be smooth?

well guys i sat the timing at 2 degrees because the manifold recomends 2 degrees over stock, even thought i have a cam i figured to not go further then 2

seems like its a little more sluggish of the line but from what i see on that engine simulator that should be right because less timing makes more power up top as where more timing makes the power sooner is this right and does 2 degrees adavance sound good for the motor in the sig... definitly sounds alot loopier now though

Thats what I did.

Don't go overboard though, or you might end up with hot starting problems (like not wanting to crank over really easy)

Are you sure you're not changing cam timing in your SW?

With vacuum advance distibutors, you keep increasing the base until you get ping/knock, then back off for the best you can get.

I can't see an engine being more sluggish off the line with more timing that we're talking about here...i/e 0 and 8* BTDC

what do u mean in my SW?
the way im changing it is by turing the disty and also i went from 8-10 to 2 now so thats why its more sluggish but with the less timing it should have more top end right? i say this because that simualtor showed almost a 20hp gain by going from 10 advance to only 2 advance (where its set now). does this seem correct?
