What causes this sound???

What could be a cause of the car sounding like a deisel engine under load? This seems to happen especially when the car first started after sitting for a few hours.

305 tbi L03 is the engine.

It sounds like it's coming from the passangers side down low. My first thought was from the area of the cat, but I can't find it exactly because I can only get the sound while under load. It's nasty loud when you drive next to a wall or something and is more so from the pass side, yet still audible from the drivers side.

I've done a recent tune up and as best as I can tell it's not a knock or ping, just that gawd awful gurgling sound that you would hear from a desiel.

Any ideas?

Check for exhaust leaks first, especially around any connections and the muffler. Then check to see if your cat is functioning properly. With the engine warm get a meat thermo and touch the exhaust pipe before and after the cat. The temp after the cat should be hotter...if not, then replace the cat.

The LO3 in my opinion can sound slightly diesel-ish when your revs are low and you in a high gear...but just slightly.

I got a nasty clatter from down low at at any rpm above 2500, but that was my y-pipe vibrating against my SFC's. Check the bolts around where the exhaust manifold bolts to your y-pipe. If these are loose, they would have more of tendency to rattle when the engine is under a little strain. The same thing happened to me.
