Quick info about the s10 steering box vs. stock f-body

I've read that our stock power steering is 2.5:1 and the "Z" marked boxs from some IROCs had 2.25:1 ratio. What are some other options? What is the s10 manual box? I'd like something with a 2:1. I know that the first gen maro's and early Nova's used the same power steering box (probably more cars but I don't know for sure) as we do so what are our options?

A manual steering box isn't a quick ratio box. It's geared low for mechanical advantage since there's no power assist. I never counted mine but it's probably 3:1

Quick ratio boxes were usually used on third gens with 16 inch rims but not all. My 454SS also came with a quick ratio box.

Yeah I know it's not a quick ratio box. I want to know OF a quick ratio box other than the "Z" box. I might just get a smaller steering wheel but I'd like to just get a different steering box if possible.

I believe people but "manual" S10 steering boxes in F-bodies to save weight. The box is physically smaller and lighter, plus you get to loose the power steering pump and pulley. The manual box has a different ratio so you can steer the car manually

And the FirstGens had ANYTHING but a close-ratio steering gear. My '67 had a tight front end but was still failrly wide, lock-to-lock. The SecondGen 'F' cars began using a variable-ratio box that was really nice. The '71½ Z28 and later had an optional variable-ratio box that was very nice, and the same box was available for some of the Firebirds.

That won't change the ratio.

Thanks Mike. I had a smaller grant wheel on my 86 sc and it was great. I felt like I had a lot more control over the car. The larger the wheel the more it feels like a boat.
So Vader, what would be the tightest box for autocross? A second gen f-body?
