New heads... need your opinions

well, i need to get moving on a set of new heads and ive been looking at the dart iron eagles because they're pretty much in the price range that i want to spend on new heads. i have a comp cam 503 cam with 224/230 durration and .535/.544 lift with 1.6 rr's. my cam has a power range of 1800-5800 rpms, and i have a 3000 stall converter to go with the setup. now... i wanted to know what you guys think would give me more power, the 180 cc heads, or the 200? im not planning on revving the car past 6200, and im looking for a good range of power throughout the rpm range. i have a friend who ports heads and he told me he could port the heads out like a beast for me if i wanted to, but i don't know which is better... to get the 180 heads and have them ported to hell (he ports heads for a living so it wont be a crappy port job, he's a professional), or just get the 200's with really good valves? i dont see the point in getting heads that flow better top end if im never going to see the rpms shoot that high. any suggestions are welcomed... and yeah, i know i could get better heads, but im on a tight budget so im pretty much looking for $600-700 for a set of bare heads. oh, and should i go with the manley pro-flow valves, or do you guys have any suggestions on better flowing valves? thanks for all the help

You will get better results in a street head with the smaller ports, a less aggressive port job that concentrates more on the bowl area and the roof around the valve guide and less on "gasket matching", and the Manley Street-Flow or Race-Flow valves (with undercut stems), or the equivalent type from Comp, Ferrea, etc.

Get the heads prepped from the factory for 1.45" springs, and use Comp 987 springs and hardware.

Vortecs, @170cc with a quick porting job will support enough HP to put a 350 f body into the 11s.
Maybe that's helpful.

I just thought the 170cc figure would be some data you could work with.

TTYTT I'd love to see a dyno comparison between the Dart 180s and Vortecs.
The vortecs have a lot going for them and I've thought about getting a pair, but all my intake stuff is for the std sbc1 bolt pattern, and if the Dart 180s are as good as the Vortecs then it would help out a lot cause then I wouldn't ahve to buy another intake.

Well, what is your compression ration going to be? Do you want the irons or would you consider say the TFS 23º heads? Can't remember if they have the undercuts in 'em already. The runners are 195cc though, not a bad compromise. Or, if you have free porting services have you considered the Corvette castings?

The heads with the smaller port volume will be great for you. When you use the smaller port, the velocity of air/fuel mix is increased. This produces better bottom end power. If you are looking for a hard pull in the mid rpm range, you want more velocity in your runners. I bought the 230cc Iron Eagles with 64cc chambers. They pull like a bull running from castoration (from 5,000 rpm to 7ish), but b4 you reach those rpms, it is like the bull after the farmer catches him. Another thing to think about is if the 180's don't flow enough, your buddy can port them, however, if you get the big ones, and they are too much...........
Hope this helps.

You running stock tpi setup? If so then 180's. If you got a TB and runners then maybe the 200's.

hsr, 58mm tb, and 9.7 cr with the comp cams 503 cam. i know the 58mm tb might be an over kill and i should have gone with the 52mm tb, but i plan on supercharging my iroc next year when i get my tax return so i bought the 58mm just for that reason.

and streeriron85... i believe the dart i e 180's flow better than the vortecs do... lemme find the link and ill post it up.

my friend said he'd port the living crap out of the heads if he wanted me to... would it be a wise idea to port the intake and exhaust, or just do what RB said? because the 200's flow a lot better on the intake side than the 180's do, but they both flow about the same in the exhaust side... i want to figure this all out soon so i can get the heads and put them on. thanks guys
