Oil cooler/filter adapter

I am planning on using this oil cooler/filter adapter from a 90's 3/4 ton truck and I have two concerns:

1) Why the bypass valve in the center of the threaded pipe where the oil filter goes? It has the one in the normal spot but another in the center.

2) Both bypasses can be pushed fairly easily with your finger. Is this a concern?

The one in the center is an anti-drainback valve, not a relief valve.

It is different than the 3rd gen oil cooler. The oil itself is routed to the heat exchanger, rather than coolant being routed to the adapter and the heat exchanged within the adapter on 3rd gens.

Thanks five7. Should I be concerned with the rather weak feeling bypass? Both the anti-drain back and the bypass have the same tension.

I'm getting over my head here. I haven't seen any documentaion, just made assumptions. I'm thinking it may be a thermostatically operated bypass.

I honestly don't know. Toss it in a pot of boiling water and see if it gets harder to open.
