Trying to match my engine ID
I inherited a 350TPI motor The guy that gave it to me says it came from late 80's Vette but I dont believe him.
I matched the PROM code and it points to a 88 T/A, auto, 3.27 gears. My thought is the motor is probably the same.
The numbers I got off the block are:
GM 5.7 LG
G147
1493638
Does anyone know of a website where I can decode to see if the motor is also an 88?
If it helps it has centerbolt valve covers, serpentine belt setup, Mass Air and is a roller motor. My guess is its an 87 or 88.
Thanks for all your help in advance!!!

You're on the website that decodes those.
The last string of digits is the block casting #, but it's missing a digit. It ends in 638 though which is a typical late 80s 350 block.
G 14 7 is the casting date code. It was cast on the 14th day of the Gth (7th) month (July) in a year ending in 7. About typical for 88 model year production in the middle part of the year.
None of that has anything to do with what chassis it was installed in. But it's the important part; all that "from a Vette" BS is just a bunch of monkey-spank. But, if the TPI and heads that's on it came from a Vette, it will have aluminum heads and the externally-plumbed EGR line. If it doesn't have those things, then it doesn't matter whether it's "from a Vette" or not; because it's the exact same thing either way.

Cool! Thanks for the heads up!!! I was pretty sure the LT1 had aluminum heads and this one does not. I am going to assume its an 88 from the information you conveyed. Which would be mint since I am putting it in a 92 RS I just picked up for short dough. Motor came with computer and harness.
Its off to the machine shop on Monday to go .030" over

Also, take off the pan and look at the mains. F-bodies had 2-bolt blocks, Corvettes had 4-bolt blocks. Aluminum heads is a dead giveaway though.

Good call again! The motor is fully disassembled right now. This is my winter project. I have not decided if I want to leave it an auto to change to a 5-spd. Time will tell!
Where can I find the decoder for the Engine? I just realized the error was me not typing a number. The engine code is 14393638.

Awesome! I just checked it all out. The 3 was actually a 0 which was the one digit that was really hard to read.
Thanks so much for your help guys!!!
