No spark
I posted before about this problem but it went away after I put in a different module. But lately its been doing it again. could it be a bad pick up or could there be something else that isn't giving it spark.
I will give a recap, randomly the car will not have spark. I can go out side start the car, drive somewhere and go out to start it again and it will not have spark. and then alittle bit later I will try to start it and it will start like there was no problem.
Thanks Mike

The wires to your coil and cap may be getting wet, it has happened to me before. I just sprayed them with a little wire drier or WD-40 and the problem magically went away. I don't know if it will solve your problem, but its worth a shot.

I think I might try that also, but I can replace the distributor because it is still under warranty at autozone. Also what would cause it to do that on a dry day?

I don't know maybe a cracked wire or residual moisture on the wires causing the electricity to flow wrong. This solved my wierd starting problems acouple of years ago. I would crank the engine work hours trying to get it to fire. Once i sprayed all the wires going to the coil, it solved the problem instantly.

Duke901, when you say "I can go out side start the car, drive somewhere and go out to start it again and it will not have spark."
does that mean that you will drive the car up into "operating temperature" and then turn it off and try to start it with no avail?
How did you check for no spark?

That happened to me last year only with an MSD 6A. It went on all winter, bugged the hell out of me. MSD repaired something in my box and charged me $35 since it was off warranty.
I don't know what was wrong tho.
I would drive someplace and park, then come out and try to start the engine and there would be no spark. 10 min later it would be as if nothing was ever wrong, until the next time it happened.
I actually dug up an old points type dist and figured out a way to wire it as a backup, in case that ever happens again.

sellmanb- well sometimes it does both like in the morning i can go out and it will start and i can go somewhere, park the car and when i come back out it wont start. Then sometimes i will go out in the morning and it wont start. Then other days the car will act normal and will start up with no problem. With the operating temp it does it even when the motor it cold.
streetiron85- Did you find out what was causing it.

I sent the box to MSD and one day they called and told me they found something and it was fixed.
After I posted, I was thinking about it and I remember that I eliminated everything and narrowed it down to the box.
I had a HEI dist with the module removed an MSD box and a remote coil.
There was no spark from the coil to the ground, so I was sure the primary side of the coil was getting no signal.
I used a points trigger and the problem continued, so at that point I knew it was the box.
I guess that wouldn't apply to you since you're HEI.
It might be worth your while to put an MSD box on your HEI though. It eliminates the module altogether.

Well, this morning I replaced the distributor, I went out and it didn't start, so I took it out, got a different one and put it in and it start right off. So iam thinking that it was the pick up that was bad.
