as long as you have a Bill of Sale, The Title, and Insurance I dont see any problem with driving it home. I know Iowa gives you 15 days to get plates, Wisconsin i believe is 30 Days so im sure NY has some sort of buffer period.

I had my 88GTA transported from Michigan to Florida and it cost near 800 bucks-- I'd investigate the grace period in the states you will be traveling in.

What company did you use? Was it enclosed or on a trailer?
I need to get my RS to FL

DAS- dependable auto shippers. the car was not enclosed but I requested it was on the lower level- (id rather get a little tar off my paint rather then repair a bunch of nicks and dings)--
