Ok here is the jist of it. I was driving down the street when suddenly my dash went out and the engine died at the exact same
moment. I turned the ignition key and nothing happens. The windows won't even go up. The headlights still go on and the dome light goes on when the door is open but if you turn the key
you get nothing. I opened the hood and smelled an electrical burnt type smell. I looked under my open element air cleaner and the wire on top of the coil was exposed and touching the bottom of the air cleaner. I think this is the culprit. I replaced the coil but everthing is still dead.

 

Time to start tracking down the fusible links in the positive battery wire, and fusible links from the starter to the body harness. Don't overlook the ESC (Extremely Stupid Connector, according to RB83L69) that connects the fusible links to the body harness:



Replace then with the same size link, or you may not be so lucky next time.
