How hot is too hot?

Now that the dog days of summer are
here my car is runing hot, up to 220 in
traffic but never past that how bad is 220
can my motor live with that. I have
an electric fan that comes on as soon as
the key is turned..thanks foe any help..

Your engine will live with 220* just fine. The stock fan setup in my car turned the fan on at 220*.

To address your original question more directly, anything approaching or exceeding 240°F is too hot, in my opinion. Performance and economy start to degrade, and stresses on the lubrication, cooling, and other systems will threaten engine life.

220 is fine.. I have mine runnning in the 180-190 range...
