Alternator or...
Well My car seemed to be working fine until recently. It's started making what seems to be a clicking sound sort of. It get's faster as I rev the engine and of course slows down when I let off.
Someone told me it could be the water pump but that does not seem like it would be the problem to me. (But who knows I'm probably wrong.)
The most relevant solution I've heard was that it may be the alternator but I'm no expert.
Thanks in advance guys

it could be any of the rotaing acc on the front of the engine. take a long screw driver and put your ear to the handle, with the metal end touch it to the alt. ps pump a/c comp water pump if you can get at it.
this will amplify the sounds and help you tell exactly what part it is. also look for something hitting the belts or pully that could so i too.

plan to be piddling around with the car tomorrow. New spark plugs and what not. Dont know when they were changed last because I only bought the car about 6 months ago. Dunno when the guy put new ones on there. Had 8 AC Delco spark plugs on my desk for about a month now. We were going to change them when we change the distributer cap but didn't have the time.
Let you know how that turns out
Thanks

before you start tearing it apart take a metal rod and place it on various points of the engine (valve covers, sides of the block, heads, oil pan) this way you can help narrow down your problem. I definitely dont think its a starter problem because of your symptoms esp. while the car is running...unless the starter has a mind of its own.
i had a similar problem 5 years ago with the first motor in my el camino. turns out the piston rings were badly worn and the piston would rock back and forth in the cylinder causing "piston slap." but as stated above it may just need valve tightening. before you take the cover off and adjust them (making a mess of oil) try a rod on various points before you get "dirty."
