Need help on deciding what kind of air intake....

My TPI install into my Camaro is almost complete. I have a factory Camaro TPI air box. I also have 2 K&N air filters sealed in their packages. I am very anxious to drive my car, but I do eventually want to make a custom intake that consists of tubing off of the throttle body that goes to the side into a K&N cone air filter. Now, should I go ahead and gut my air box and put the K&N's in, or should I start from scratch and make my custom intake? Which one will perform better? Is there a noticable difference between the two? My only concern is that I don't want to waste the 50 bucks I have invested in the filters by opening them, and then realizing that the gutting of the boxes does nothing for me. What do you guys think? Also, should I make it a ram-air with tubing from the front grills, or just leave it as a gutted air box? Anyone with a custom Camaro intake, please respond. Thanks for the help.
