Car won't start. Checked just about everything. Could it be the VATS??

Today when I was leaving work, I went to start the car and it wouldn't crank. I tried about four times and on the last one, it started right up. When I got home, it wouldn't start again and hasn't since. I've checked just about everything under the hood and I've started to get my hands dirty with that mess of wire harnesses under the dash. At first I thought it was my clutch safety switch but that wasn't it. I've checked a buch of the other wires and all the fuses to no avail. I'm guessing it has to do with the VATS. After dinner I'm gonna go back out and try to find those wires and check them. Any tips on what to look for? I'm really in a jam here.

Thanks

yea it could be the vats, but if you did have trouble with the vats you wouldnt be able to start the car at least 10 min after the first try. vats disables the ignition system at least 10 min after a illegal entry. If you just kept trying to crank and all the sudden it started, then I would look to your ignition switch under the steering column, or the starter relay mounted on your starter.

OK thanks. I had thought of the ignition switch being bad but that went bad and was replaced about a year ago. I guess it could've gone bad again though. I'll check it to make sure.

Alright I was able to start the car by rolling it down an incline and then putting it in gear and cranking it. This means my ignition switch is fine doesn't it? What else would it be besides the VATS? How do I check and fix or bypass the VATS?

Thanks

I found and fixed the problem. One of the previous owners had ghetto-rigged a wire coming from the ignition switch by twisting the wires and putting electrical tape around it. No solder or anything. Makes me wonder what else has been messed with on the car. Anyways I just soldered the wire together and shrink wrapped it and the car starts no problem now. Thanks for the suggestions though.

thanks for the feedback. It had nothing to do with your vats and everything to do with your ignition switch. the switch itself was good, just wired crappy. explains how you were able to push start it....cool....at least it was simple...
