First the L98 is and SBC. But it is the later 1pc rear main seal engine with roller cam shaft.

if you have to ask i'd question your ability to actually make the swap, but giving you the benefit of doubt that you may be a ford guy that's seen the light just tell summit what you have and what you want and let them figure out PNs for you.

...Unless you are speaking of the first 230 HP L98, which had a flat tappet camshaft and s-piece rear crank seal (available in Corvettes in the 1985 model year). Just be aware of that when ordering your parts.

Correct me if I'm wrong guys but IIRC 1987 was the first year for the roller cam and the one piece rear main seal.

Everything is interchangable except the crankshafts and the camshafts and lifters along with the timing chain.

Actually GM made the changes to address old, old 'issues' with the SBC. Those issues were oil leaks and camshaft wear.

There is a different 'one piece' oil pan gasket, pan rail 'stiifners', the rear oil one piece seal and of course the roller cam.
The heads were changed for the center bolt valve covers along with higher rails on the valve cover surfaces.
These changes were made to make the SBC which had proven over the years to be very good, even better.

638

the block casting number is 638 and its the same block as the 350 silverados and such except the trucks didnt have the holes drilled in the intake valley for the spider retainer like the f-body roller 350. it should be the same til like 94 or so for the trucks. the half tons were only 2 bolt mains tho. you should try to find a 3/4 ton that early 90s body style cuz they had the 1 piece rear main and the 4 bolt mains.

Well, I am a GM guy. I should have been more in depth with my question. I knew it was A SBC, I was just looking for more of an answer, like I got from the first guy that responded to my post. I wanted to know what I would have to look up in, say summit, if I wanted a certain cam or rebuild kit.

So an L98, is classified as 1 piece RMS, roller cam.

Thanks.

Think of the L98 as an engine package. . . When you change the heads or the cam, or even the induction style, it ceases to be a true L98...
