cars runnin like a$$
last night my car starting runnin bad mainly in the lower rpms. it would sputter, almost feeling like someone bouncing on the clutch. i know its not my clutch cuzz its new, so i figured it was my fuel filter which has never been replaced, so i replaced it, cut the old filter open, it looked horrible. but the problem continued. then my service light came on and it flashed code 42. i took my ignition control module to be tested at oreilys. after about 10 tests, each time it showed it was faulty in the low rpms. which is where my problem was most apparent at. so i got a new one, put it in...and my problem still continues. code 42 shows it would be ether fault at electronic spark timing circuit or fault at direct ignition system or fault at fuel cutoff relay circuit. could my problem be fuel system related? is there any way to check fuel pressure on tbi? thanks in advance

You got to coat it good or it will overheat and short out. Sometimes they put a little tube in the box, usually they do not.
Remove the black wire from the battery for 10 min to reset the codes.

 Bring it back and have them test it. I usually have them test the ones I buy as well. I have found ones that did not pass right off the shelf.
If they come with the clear dielectric grease, or if they come with nothing, ask for Wells part no.SL203. Should be two tubes of the stuff.

My brother's 91 RS TBI had the same problem that the only way it would get power was to down shift it making sure the rpm's were high enough. Bought a new fuel pump and had a mechanic replace it. Before he actually installed it, he called me to let me know that that wasn't the problem. Problem was that one of the injectors was cloged and the other one was barely flowing. Went ahead and replaced both injectors and fuel pump as well. Solved that problem.

well makes sense, but it doesn't sound like that would have anything to do with code 42. the only related fuel system componant to code 42 is the fuel cutoff relay ciruit, which, correct me if im wrong, should only be used in the event of an accident or turning your car off. but hey, if the circuit is malfunctioning, would it effect fuel delivery?

Wouldn't know much about the whole code thing, but didn't you mention that you had checked it 5 more times and no more codes. So are you getting anymore codes? Well my brother's car was getting a code but I was just too lazy to check it out. Took it to one shop and a code came up. They said it was running lean. They wanted $600 for a complete tune-up plus O2 sensor. I ended up doing it myself for 1/4 of the price and nothing. Good thing I did pay the shop to do it. Always knew it had to be a fuel problem since the begining, but couldn't convince my brother. The car basically idel smooth, but when crusing at a low rpm I would give it a little gas and the car would feel like it would misfire really bad. Would always have to downshift. Just telling you from experience. May not be the the problem but just wouldn't want you to go out pay $600 for a tune-up that wouldn't have even solved anything.

Maybe.... The 2 are not related (The code and running bad)
Maybe a cloged injector is causing the stumble.
Maybe you fixed the code with the module.

why don't you create a new thread instead of bringing this almost 5 year old thread up?
