305 problem

im buying another 82 firebird for my wife from a friend of mine. He had the motor completely rebuilt and its PERDY but we are having probles..First all the emmissions were cut off it. and second after it warms up it wants to shut off. Now i was told from the same guy im buying it from (whom i really would trust my life with) that it is because the comp is looking for the emmissions or something like that, he is really not to sure.
I havent really gone over it yet but plan to this week end. Is there something i should be looking for or is there something i can change to correct the problem.
what can i do?
thanks,
bill

Welcome aboard.

We really need to know more about what was removed. Simply removing the A.I.R. pump and tubing won't cause any running problems. Removing the O2 sensor, MAP sensor, coolant temp sensor, etc., will only cause the computer to go into "limp home mode" when it tries to go closed loop.

More than likely you have an ignition component that goes open circuit when the engine warms up. That could be the ignition control module, trigger wheel sensor, or coil.

Does the SES light come on?

(This really belongs on the Tech/General Engine forum, rather than Engine Swap, so moving there.)
