dart iron eagle heads

hey guys, i own a 85 trans am with 305 motor. converted it to carb. and would like to slap on a different set of heads. i don't really have the money to go with aluminum heads, so i was looking into a set of good cast iron ones. i've heard that the dart iron eagles are good. anyone have any experience with these heads? how much of a gain over stock would i be looking at? is it worth the money? thanks for the help -TEAL-

I am currently doing a head swap on my car too. I have looked at all of the flowcharts for the various heads and came to the conclusion, that for the money you cant beat the trickflow aluminum heads. 1025 for the pair, assembled.

Rethink your costs though. By the time you pay for the iron eagles for another 100 bucks you could have a good set of aluminum heads. I know of a company that is selling Dart Pro1s for 1050 a pair, assembled to your specs. The darts just dont flow what the trickflows do. IMO its not worth saving the 100 bucks, when you can get a much better head. You are already laying out almost 1000.

For a 305, Dart SS may be the answer.
They're possibly the least expensive of all aftermarket heads.

will the heads work on a 305 though?
i was under the impression that the intake can come into contact with the cylinder?

Actually the SS heads would have to be milled an awful lot to get the chamber vol down, @ 72cc.
I'm not sure it would be possible.

I think a budget needs to be established in order to give/get the best recommendations and bang for the buck.

Whats wrong with the heads you have now. Just port them up and have bigger valves installed.

hey guys...i was wondering about using a 49cc combustion chamber head. i did the math and it seems that i would be running about 11:1 compression. is that too much for a street car? my car doesn't see the freeway very often...is this still too much compression? or should i consider something more like a 64cc head? thanks again for the help -TEAL-

I just noticed you are running a 305 right? 11:1 is really too high for iron heads. If you are buying these heads for that 305, why not look at some world torquer 305 heads? They are reasonably priced and a decent head. Other wise if it were me, I would look for some aluminum L98 heads. 58cc chamber, and decent flow.

Don't do it you will lose all thermal efficiency, considering these are heat engines we are talking about here!

how much of a bang for your buck are the world torquer heads? i looked at them online and they seem to be very reasonably priced, however, is the gain over stock from these heads worth the money? anyone have any experience running these heads? -TEAL-
