PLEASE set my mind at ease........
PLEASE set my mind at ease........
I just noticed my oil pump shaft is a little loose at the bottom of my NEW angine. I was stabbing the distributer and had to turn the shaft a little so it would go down (normal) and when I touched it with the screwdriver it moved left and right about 1/8 of an inch back and forth. Is this normal? When the engine runs it has oil pressure ALOT actually as it is a high flow oil pump and never really noticed a drop in pressure at any rpm. Please tell me the moving shaft is normal or no big deal. Thanks
Mateo,
Go to sleep and stop worrying. The shaft needs to have some play on the upper end, since it is held on center by the distributor drive shaft. If the oil pump shaft were not allowed to move into alignment with the distributor, the pump shaft and distributor would wear out in a few hundred miles, if they lasted even that long without breaking.
The movement HAS to be there.
