Hey guys, I just recently bought a 91 RS LO3 w/ 5 speed. I am looking at doing an engine swap but I know that the stock TBI will not give me the power that I want. Here is my proposed combo:

GM Performance Parts 350, the one thats 330 HP w/ Vortec heads. ~ $2,400

Holley Stealth Ram kit with flange for the Vortec heads. ~ $2,800

I have a few questions that I hope someone with experience can help me out with. Does the HSR clear the stock hood? Has anyone tried this combo yet? Would it work? How much trouble will I have putting this combo in a TBI car, since the HSR kit is supposedly made for use with the TPI throttle cables, etc. Would I see over 330HP (assuming full exhaust)? What would I need to upgrade in order to make this work?

Thanks in advance for your reply

I'm doning the smae thing i have a 350TBI witha 454 TBI on it, alot of custom work to the motor. I am switch to the HSR with the C950. All info i give you is what i've found or read on here or stealthram.com well enough on that.

1) I heard holley has a vortech HSR but i didn't know they released it.
2) for the camaro it will clear the hood it's close.
3)I think no one has a vortec HSR yet i could be wrong though.
4) If you buy the complete setup with the C950 (commander 950) it comes with all the wires, fuel pump, and other goodies you need. shouldn't be to hard a weekend job.
5)330 maybe but i'm not to sure on that but i will tell you from what i have read so far the stealthram is more torque then horse power. power band can go longer to up to and even passed 6000RPM
6) If you get the whole kit you need to buy a TPI thottle cable, TPI kick down cable, TPI bracket for the thottle cable, and some othe little odds and ends.

If i'm wrong here let me know. I'm sorry in advanced if i missed or got something wrong. Like i said this is what i found researching stuff on this. Since this my plan. I'll be making a 383 HSR motor with and Eagle rotating assembly, AFR 195 heads, and some other goodies.

Yes, I have also only heard of the HSR for the Vortec heads. I have not seen whether they have released it yet. I guess my best bet for those TPI parts would be from a donor car???

I figure these would be a good, simple fit, when the HSR for the Vortecs comes out. I really didnt want to convert to a stock TPI setup, because I have heard that it was designed for the 305, and I need something that will feed that crate motor adequately.

It sounds like you have the plans for a killer setup. You will have to keep us posted on your progress, as will I. What are you doing for cooling? Do you have the stock radiator or did you upgrade? Do you still have the single stock fan or did you switch to a dual fan setup? Will you be running a stock Z28 induction setup, or something custom to get air to your throttle body?

Ideas/comments welcome.

I curently have a 3 core radiator and a perma coll 16 inch fan. believe me it works great. Almost too well. Pulls almost 3000CFM by it's self. in the winter i have problems getting heat. As soon as the fan kicks on the air goes from hot to cold. and then i used an adjustible fan comtrol too. took the computer out of the loop. Stock water pump.

I'm still researching that. i think i'll do the filter of the TB for now. later i will put a CAI kit on. hope that help some.
