chocolate milk on dipstick leaving a bad taste
chocolate milk on dipstick leaving a bad taste
So I pull the dipstick on my motor that has been in my car for all of 4 miles, and i've got coolant mixing with my oil. What are all of the possibilites or even some type of diagnosis for this?

Intake gasket, head gasket, or maybe someone poured the wrong bottle in the wrong hole?
I'd hate to jump to say a crack in either the head or the block, but it's a possibility.

Is it completely milk shake, or just some streaks?

with me... my oil was black after about 200 miles so i knew something was up. i thought it might have been a head gasket so while going ahead and taking everything apart, i get down to the intake and i see some coolant along side of the lifter valley on the pass side. see... when i put my heads back on about 200 miles before, i asked my friend to re-torque the intake. he didn't, but he told me he did. well... thats all it took. I really didn't notice any white smoke comming out of the exhaust... just a tiny stain of coolant on the block between the head and the intake. if you're blowing white smoke, and it smells sweet - it's your head gasket. if you're not, and you just have milkshake, chances are, it's just your intake gasket. easier for you if it's your intake gasket... trust me, pulling heads isnt too cool when it's cold out (but i dont have to worry about it being cold...i live in miami

If it's just a couple of streaks, could just be condensation in the dip stick tube (been there, done that) and not a real problem at all. Try wiping off the dipstick and reinserting it 3 or 4 times (wiping off each time). If it goes away there's no real propblem. If it's more than just a few little streaks, then never mind what I said!

i had this happen on my 406 motor, turns out i used the stock head bolts which i cleaned up with a tap and die set.But they were stretched so when i ran the bolts through the die it actually removed a small amount of material, and of course like a true bone head i didnt use any sealant on the threads so coolant worked its way up through the threads and slowly trickled into the lifter gallery.but wasnt a major problem to fix though just bought some new arp bolts and problem solved
Well, it looks like I'm going to have to tear this motor down. Never having had a motor do this to me, what can i look for? If it's just an intake gasket, what kind of condition will it be in? Or even the bad head gasket?
