stupid Air Conditioner idea

Okay instead of making the A/C run into the car, why not make it feed the air intake from a snorkel? Stupid idea, yes. I'm ashamed of myself.

But hey, the incoming air would be nice and frosty!

This topic was debated last summer before the boards were redone. I think it was decided that the draw on the engine from running the a/c would counter any gains from the cold air.

Yeah thats what I figured.
Unless you had several AC cores.
And a good alternator.
And great gas mileage

Yea I have alot of dead time to think about stuff like this also .

Well the theroy is "for evry 5 degree drop in air temp 1%hp is made." Although I never tested to see how cold the average ac system is im sure its worth some hp.
Problems with this theroy!
1.The cold air would be mixed with hot outside air so there would not be a large drop in incoming air temp.
There is no real solution to this problem.
2. If you overcome problem 1, the ac must be running full blast to drop air temp.
The problem when the ac is running the car drops an average of 10/15 hp. Some people say its only 5hp loss though.
The answer!
If the system was working correctly the increase from the cold air would only cover the power that is lost from the ac pump being active.

another note.
Carb guys, Although I am a Holley guy edelcraps run alot cooler I mean ALOT cooler than holleys or qjets. I have noticed that edlbrocks stay at fuel temp which is fairly cold. qjets run very hot holleys run in betwen and edlbrocks are cool. Just an intresting side note.

SSC, I asume you mean with a machanicle fuel pump on the Carb right? What i mean is with an electric fuel pumb with return line, it should run at least a little cooler. Reason i'm asking is because i have a holley. Laters

True true. An electric fuel pump "if located near the tank" will run cooler because there is no aditinal engine heat. A block mounted pump transfers heat to the fuel.
