Engine overheating, fan questions
Engine overheating, fan questions
The engine on the Trans AM is overheating when I come to a stop. If I'm doing 20 or so KPH or more, I get enough airflow over the radiator, and there's no problem, it's pretty much only when I'm sitting still for a long time. (IE: Toronto's traffic)
Since the 350 has a belt driven fan, would getting a better fan help the situation, or should I bite the bullet and get an electric fan and wire it into the ignition?
I'm sort of looking for a quick fix, as I have to move all my stuff this weekend, and don't want my car to sit in heavy traffic too much.
Thanks in advance guys...

The clutch for your fan is prolly shot. Unfortuneately replacement thermostatic fan clutches are pretty high dollar and if you're lucky you might be able to score an electric fan set up from a junkyard/ebay/etc for about the same price.
If your waterpump is very old, it is also possible that the impellers have rusted/worn away and you're not getting much coolant flow at low rpms. Not as likely as the beat fan clutch though.

- Definitely prototypes, high powered mutants of some kind. Too weird to live, too cool to die

So what your saying is Ed, that I might aswell get an electric fan from a junk yard....
Anyone one know where in Toronto, I can find one? I've just moved up, and have NO idea where anything is...
