oil pressure gauge

i have an 84 z28 with a 305(the engine is out of an 84 jimmy). It was computer controled but its no longer. My pressure gauge never moves its always straight up even when the car is off. is it b/c of it not being computer controled anymore or is it because of something else? any help would be greatful

gauge isn't controled by the ecm. easiest to use aftermarket gauge and way more accurate too

Yeah get an aftermarket mechanical gauge its cheap, easy to install, and much more reliable then the crappy factory ones.

If its standing straight up, then the wire going to the oil pressure sender, which should be under your distributor, is grounded out on something. Replace the sending unit (again, under the distributor, drivers side) plug in the wire, make sure the wire is touching nothing else, then see what happens.

sounds like you have a bad gauge in your cluster. My friends oil pressure gauge in his 86 Z sticks sometimes and bounces around.
