lost key for ignition.....
alright so we got a snow storm last night and i was in my trans am and decided that it would be better driving in a FWD car than my TA....so i go home and swap cars and drive down the highway some.... i happen to see a car in the ditch and notice that it is someone i know in their 99 firebird.....so i pull over to help....well when we were hooking up the town rope my keys to my trans am fell out of my pocket and i didnt notice until an hour later when we were back home......well i went back out there that night and couldnt find them and i went back out there today and still couldnt find them.....it may warm up tomorrow and hopefully i will be able to find them....but if not have any of you heard of being able to give GM your vin code or whatever and them being able to reproduce a key to match your lock just as long as it is the original lock for the vehicle????
and also....i was reading up on how to replace the lock and cylinder since i have never done it before and that was my other option.....well it says that i need to turn the key to the run position and then pull out the key buzzer switch...then remove the lock and cylinder......is there anyway around turning the key to the run position since i dont have the key??
any help would be greatly appreciated.....man i really need to get copies of my TA keys

take you drivers license and registration to your local GM dealer and they can retrive your key code for you off the VIN. If they cant cut a key for you there then just take the key code to a locaksmith and they can do it there.

Not sure if GM still has records back to '84 but still worth a shot. New lock cylinders and keys aren't that expensive, but I will say if you replace it to get a decent steering wheel puller and lock plate compressor, makes the job 10x easier with no swearing. And I don't remember having to turn the key to remove the lock cylinder but I could be wrong.

They don't. Call a lock smith and have him come out and cut ont for you. Or if you have time to waste, drill out the tumbler area and replace the cylinder.
