Hey I just got the 91 rs had some truble with it running rough so I did some work to it and when I was ready to give it a crank the #*@$# key just turned freely. no nothing!! So I took off the steering wheel and all that good stuff to get to the switch and it turns and the sterring lock rod moves and there is some other pcs that comes up when the key turns but there is nothing no spring back no run start or acc clicks. is there a rod or something going down the column that may have broke?? I looked through my haynes manual and they don't go that far. Anyone have any diagrames?
Yea, there is a rod that goes down the column to the ignition switch. It sounds like either the rod popped out of the switch, or the switch is broken.
The switch is a rectangle piece made from plastic that sits right on top of the column. The high/low beam switch is screwed right to the side of it, and also has a rod going to it.
If you pop the under-dash off, and lay down under the dash looking up on the door side of the column, you should be able to see it.
It's a pain in the a$$ to remove, but shouldn't take more than a couple of hours.
