cam install

what is the easist way to drop in a new cam into a 88 gta pontiac. do i have to lift or pull the motor.

It can be done with the engine in the car. The only point you really (well, not really, but you can) lift the engine would be to lower the front of the oil pan to clear the lower lip of the timing cover.

Like said before, radiator, and all the crap in front of the hole that the cam shaft goes in. Also have to remove the valve covers to loosen the pushrods, then remove the intake manifold so you can remove the lifters.
Like said before it really is a weekend job.
As much as you have to do for a cam swap, I would suggest waiting untill you can change things like lifters to 1.6's and such to maximize your swap time.

Might as well do a two piece timing cover as long as you are down there too. Make sure to get an aluminum one, they seal much better.

DO NOT pry the timing cover off of the oil pan lip and then cut the cover to slide back on. To do it right you will need to drop the front of the pan.

Which is why everyone should buy a two piece timing cover.
